Incesticide adalah salah satu album kompilasi Nirvana yang terdiri dari demo, lagu-lagu yang disensor, dan rekaman siaran radio (radio broadcast). Saat itu semua materi lagu dalam Incesticide beredar di komunitas penggemar (walaupun dalam kualitas rendah). Debut album ini dimulai pada peringkat 51 hingga akhirnya mampu mencapai peringkat 39 di Billboard 200.

Album ini dirilis pada tanggal 14 Desember 1992 di Inggris dan 15 Desember 1992 di Amerika. Meskipun album ini berisikan materi lagu-lagu lama tapi angka penjualan mencapai 500.000 kopi selama dua bulan. Dan pada tahun 2007 angka penjualan album sudah mencapai 1.3 juta kopi di Amerika saja. Nevermind adalah album studio Nirvana yang kedua, yang dirilis pada tanggal 24 September 1991. Dengan single pertamanya yang berjudul "Smells Like Teen Spirit", album ini meraih sukses besar. Nevermind menempati tangga lagu nomor satu di Billboard Amerika, menggeser album Dangerous-nya Michael Jackson dan mendapatkan penghargaan 10 kali platinum (10 juta copy) dari Asosiasi Industri Rekaman Amerika.

Nevermind bertanggung jawab untuk membawa rock alternatif ke khalayak mainstream besar, dan para kritikus musik kemudian menganggap sebagai salah satu album rock terbaik sepanjang masa.

Ide sampul album diperoleh saat Kurt Cobain (lead guitar) dan Dave Grohl (drums) sedang menonton sebuah acara televisi tentang persalinan di bawah air. Menurut Charles R. Cross dalam bukunya tentang biografi Kurt Cobain, Heavier Than Heaven, bahwa kebanyakan lagu yang ditulis dalam album ini berisi tentang hubungan disfungsional Cobain dengan Tobi Vail, mantan pacarnya.

NIRVANA

Nirvana adalah sebuah grup band rock alternatif dari Aberdeen, Washington, Amerika Serikat yang terbentuk pada tahun 1987 oleh Kurt Cobain (vocal, gitar) dan Krist Novoselic (bass). Kemudian pada tahun 1990, Dave Grohl (drum) pun bergabung. Aliran musik mereka merupakan sub genre rock alternatif yaitu : Grunge, atau lebih dikenal dengan Seattle Sound. Nirvana merupakan salah satu pelopor musik grunge.

Nirvana mulai digemari, dan dikenal oleh dunia sejak dirilisnya album mereka yang berjudul Nevermind, dengan single yang dijagokan yaitu "Smells Like Teen Spirit". Single ini membuat mereka mendapatkan tropi The Best Alternative/Rock Band dan sempat menduduki tangga nada pertama di Billboard Amerika sebelum akhirnya Kurt Cobain meninggal dunia pada bulan April 1994 karena bunuh diri. Sampai saat ini kematian Kurt Cobain masih menjadi kontroversi.
